The Hanušovice – Staré Město pod Sněžníkem railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built by the Hannsdorf – Moravian Old Town (Czech: Místní dráha Hanušovice – Staré Město ). It leads in the Kłodzko Snow Mountains from Hanušovice ( Hannsdorf ) to Staré Město pod Sněžníkem ( Moravian Old Town )

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

On August 17, 1904, the concession to build and operate a standard-gauge local train from the Hannsdorf station of the Austro-Hungarian state railway line Sternberg – Grulich was granted , sharing a section of the latter railway line to Moravian old town . On October 4, 1905, the route through the valleys of the March and Krupá was opened.

The operation was run by the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) for the account of the Hannsdorf – Mährisch Altstadt local railway. In 1912, the local railway's timetable showed four pairs of 2nd and 3rd class trains running daily. The trains took between 33 and 37 minutes for the 11-kilometer route.

After the First World War, the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) took over the management of the kkStB. In 1936 the Hannsdorf – Mährisch Altstadt local railway became the property of ČSD after all shares were taken over.

In the 1930s, the use of modern motor trains made it possible to compress the timetable and to shorten the journey time to just 31 minutes uphill. The winter timetable of 1937/38 listed five pairs of 3rd class passenger trains, all of which ran as motorized trains.

After the Sudetenland was annexed to Germany in autumn 1938, the line came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn , Reichsbahndirektion Breslau . The connection was now contained in the Reich curriculum as KBS 154a Hannsdorf – Mährisch Altstadt. This was accompanied by the final nationalization and dissolution of the Hannsdorf – Mährisch Altstadt local railway. The law of August 2, 1940 "concerning the takeover of railways in the Reichsgau Sudetenland and in the parts of the southern German territories incorporated into the Reichsgaue Oberdonau and Niederdonau" regulated a. a. the nationalization of nine local railways with a total length of 169.77 km, in which the Czechoslovak state had already held the majority of the shares.

After the end of World War II , the line came back to the ČSD.

The 2008 timetable recorded a total of 13 pairs of trains on working days, which run at approximately hourly intervals.

Vehicle use

For the account of the Hannsdorf – Mährisch Altstadt local railway , the kkStB only acquired a single class 97 locomotive . The locomotive had the road number 97.241. Today it is in a desperate condition in the Bratislava Railway Museum .
