Loksim3D is a train simulation with which the railway operations , especially on railway lines in Germany, can be represented on the computer. The program is freeware and was developed without commercial goals.
Origin and functions
Loksim3D attaches great importance to a realistic control of the trains . In addition to the corresponding representation of the driver's cab , in particular the safety devices such. B. Indusi / PZB , LZB and Sifa simulated - these must be operated according to the real conditions. Depending on the motor vehicle , different types of Sifa, LZB, Indusi and / or PZB are simulated. The corresponding safety systems are also supported for replicating Czech, Swiss or French routes and locomotives.
In addition, the physical parameters are taken into account, so that, for example, slip can be simulated. The graphic representation of the landscape is not in the foreground, but is still very detailed on some routes. Exterior views are not shown in the running simulation, the view remains limited to the view from the driver's cab in accordance with reality. A tachograph records the journey; its recordings can be saved in an XML file if desired. This also contains an evaluation in the form of a percentage value based on speeding, the number of emergency brakes , punctuality, etc.
Loksim3D can also simulate driving in fog and at night. Moving route objects are currently not possible. Snow-covered landscapes can be displayed by choosing appropriate textures and from version 2.8.2 snowfall is also possible. In addition to standard gauge , all other gauges can also be simulated. As of version 2.8.3, the driver's cab is darkened when driving through tunnels, under bridges or at night / twilight.
Download and add-ons
There is a website for the program where the program, routes, vehicles and other add-ons can be downloaded.
With an editor, users can design driver's cabs, routes, timetables and objects themselves, which they then often make available to others on the Loksim3D website. For this purpose, the editor can create packages in the program's own file format based on ZIP or as ZIP files, which facilitates upload, download and installation. The program recognizes the corresponding directories during installation.
New downloads usually go through a beta test before they are released. Some add-ons are sometimes only offered for download on the developer's website because they either failed the beta test, have not yet been completed, or are statute-barred.
All files used in the simulation (3D objects, driver's cabs, etc.) are based on the XML format, which makes it easier to create additional software that processes this format. From version 2.9 it is also possible to use external 3D object model formats or to convert them into Loksim format. All adjustments from version 2.7 are listed and partially described in extensive documentation.
A route is first created in the editor and then supplemented with signal systems, breakpoints and other properties. Added to this are the topography and objects such as houses, vegetation, etc. On the basis of the route, a course book route is defined as the route to be driven. The tracks to be driven on are specified in this KBS file. In the third step, a timetable is created that includes the stops, arrival and departure times and the characteristics of the train. Driver's cabs can also be created in the editor - here, in addition to a graphic of the driver's cab, the operating displays and physical properties ( speed levels , speed, tractive effort , etc.) are defined.
System requirements
The simulation runs under Windows Vista to Windows 10 from approx. Pentium IV and approx. 2048 MB RAM , depending on the configuration and DirectX9 -capable graphics card. Version 2.8.3, which is no longer current, is available for Windows XP users .
