The London Temple

The London Temple is the twelfth temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints , which in use is. It's in Newchapel, Surrey , England . The temple is for members in Wales , the Channel Islands , the southern part of England, Ireland, and Jordan .

history

Construction of the temple began on August 27, 1955. The temple was consecrated on September 7, 1958. During the open house, 76,000 people visited the temple before it was consecrated. It was the first temple built in the United Kingdom. The construction of the temple was part of a building program directed by David O. McKay . McKay dedicated the temple.

The temple was closed after 32 years for renovation and renewal. 790 square meters were added and a fourth room. In 1992, Gordon B. Hinckley rededicated the temple after a two-week open house. A second temple was built in 1998 in Chorley, Lancashire.

A statue of the angel Moroni was placed on top of the temple for its anniversary celebration. In addition, the temple was expanded with a visitor center for its anniversary celebration.

The temple has a land with a size of 3974 square meters. It has four regulation rooms and seven sealing rooms. He is made of Portland stone and his helmet is made of green copper.
