The London Underground 2009 Tube Stock is a series of electric railcars for the tube routes (small profile) of the London Underground , which is used on the Victoria Line . According to the usual London Underground convention, the name is derived from the year of the planned commissioning (2009).
history
Initially, commissioning was planned for 2005, so the series was originally planned as a 2005 tube stock. 47 trains of the 2009 Tube Stock type were ordered from Bombardier by Metronet as part of the modernization work on London's Victoria Line and are to completely replace the current 1967 Tube Stock fleet. The series trains have been in operation since 2010 and should be fully integrated by August 2012. Initially, two prototypes were in London for test drives and for training the staff; the first use with passengers took place on July 21, 2009.
Train formation and details
The trains are a member of the Bombardier Movia family . Like the previous series, the trains again consist of eight cars. The car bodies are, like the other series of London Underground from aluminum manufactured. The vehicles use the larger tunnel diameter of the Victoria Line in contrast to the previous vehicles and therefore offer a little more space in the interior. The 2009 tube stick is also for Automatic Train Operation (ATO, automated driving features).
commitment
The series is designed exclusively for use on the Victoria Line; use on other tube lines from London Underground is not possible due to the equipment for automatic operation and the larger cars.
