biography
After the singer Maria McKee left the band of her half-brother and sponsor, she formed an acoustic duo with the singer and guitarist Ryan Hedgecock in 1980 under the name Lone Justice with a repertoire focusing on country and rockabilly . McKee also played guitar and harmonium . The two got to know each other at a drive-in concert in San Fernando Valley because they started talking about their year-old vehicle . From this original line-up a band was created around 1982 with the addition of a rhythm section , consisting of Marvin Etzioni ( bass , vocals) and Don Heffington ( drums ). With the producer Jimmy Lovine, the 1985 debut album Lone Justice was created , which reached middle positions in the English and American charts . The pre- release Ways to Be Wicked was a small hit in the US charts . The follow-up single Sweet Sweet Baby (I'm Falling) was just as successful in the summer as its predecessor. McKee's warm soprano voice shaped both the sound and the live shows of the group, which were particularly praised by critics.
After a line-up due to musical differences in 1986, only McKee and Hedgecock were left of the original line-up. McKee emphasized that there was no dismissal. Shayne Fontayne (guitar), Bruce Brody ( keyboard ), Gregg Sutton (bass) and Rudy Richman (drums) were newcomers. On October 17th, the album Shelter was released , which sold a little less well than the previous debut. The single of the same name rose to number 47 in the USA in January 1987, and I Found Love two months later to number 45 in England. Hedgecock was also long gone by this point. Family reasons were decisive for him. A replacement soon had to be found for Fontayne. So Tony Gilkyson got membership honors, which did not last long because the group split up in 1987 after the desired success had not materialized. In retrospect, McKee admitted that she was "[z] somewhat unfocused and confused" during Shelter times, which was reflected in the songwriting . Still, there are some songs on it that she continues to like. McKee started a solo career, Hedgecock worked as a soloist and founded the band Parlor James.
