The genus Lophocorona is the only genus of the butterfly family Lophocoronidae and includes six species endemic to Australia .

features

The moths occur in Australia from west Perth to south Sydney . This family has the following characteristics: The external muscles of the labrum are absent, and the well-developed mandibles are also devoid of musculature. This means that the caterpillars , none of which have been discovered yet, must have immobile mandibles. The proboscis also has no muscles. A metanotum ( sclerotized back plate) is formed. The upper sides of the wings are not scaled. The animals have four Malpighian vessels that all open into the intestines . In the abdomen is the rope ladder nervous system with five pairs of ganglia and well-developed connections on the upper side.
