The kick is the cinematic adaptation of a Berlin play that deals with the murder of 16-year-old Marinus Schöberl by three neo-Nazis in the summer of 2002 .

background

In the summer of 2002, 16-year-old Marinus Schöberl was killed in the Brandenburg village of Potzlow by the neo-Nazi brothers Marco and Marcel Schönfeld and their friend Sebastian Fink. Schöberl wore bleached hair, baggy pants and stuttered . For the perpetrators this was a reason to despise him as “ subhuman ” and “not worth living”.

The perpetrators had tortured their victim, who belonged to Marcel's circle of acquaintances, for hours - in front of at least three adult Potzlowers. After the three Schöberl had been mistreated for several hours, given him schnapps , hit him and urinated on him, they took him to a nearby pigsty. There they called Marinus Schöberl on to bite a stone pig trough in the edge and jumped Marcel - readjustment in a " curb-kicks " from the movie American History X - with safety shoes on Schöberls head. Then the brothers threw a stone twice at the still breathing boy and sank the later lifeless body into the cesspool of the stable. Although there were witnesses and confidants in the village, the crime went undetected for months. The remains of Marinus Schöberl were not found until four months later.

Production notes

The theater text is based on 1500 pages of minutes of conversations that Andres Veiel and Gesine Schmidt made during their seven-month research. The world premieres took place in April 2005 at the Theater Basel and the Maxim-Gorki-Theater in Berlin. The film was made on the scene of the premiere in the commercial park of the old royal city on Prenzlauer Berg in Berlin. The documentary filmmaker Andres Veiel portrays the deed, which means that the two actors Susanne-Marie Wrage and Markus Lerch play all 20 protagonists.

Reviews

"Using the resources of the Brechtian theater, the minimalist film creates an oppressive mosaic that integrates the act in social, political and historical contexts without being satisfied with individual explanations."
