Potzlow is a district of the municipality of Oberuckersee with around 500 inhabitants in the district of Uckermark , Brandenburg .

geography

The place is in the Uckermark ten kilometers south of Prenzlau . The Potzlowsee is right on the spot , three kilometers to the east are the Ober- and Unteruckersee . Surrounding communities are Seehausen (rail connection: Stralsund - Berlin), Sternhagen and Fergitz .

history

Potzlow was first mentioned as Pozlowe 1239. As early as 1287 Potzlow received town charter , but this was revoked from the place in 1608. On January 1, 1926, the Strehlow community was incorporated into Potzlow. In 1989 the place celebrated its 750th anniversary. On New Year's Eve 2001 it merged with three other communities to form the new community of Oberuckersee.

Attractions

Wooden Roland on the market square

There is a hall church made of granite blocks. The church from the 15th century contains a Remler organ with two church bells. The names of the donors, von Kettelhack, the patron family of the village Strehlow at the time, can be read on it.

In front of the church, on the market square, there is a wooden Roland . As early as 1305, a Roland indicated Potzlow's market rights . According to legend, this is said to have been a stone figure that is said to have been stolen by Prenzlauern in the dispute over city rights. In any case, on November 12, 1727, a new oak Roland was erected. This collapsed in 1806 and was replaced by a new, very simple wooden figure by the local carpenter, which was later placed on a sandstone plinth. This now heavily weathered Roland was dismantled and is now in the tower of the church. In 1991, the sculptor Claus Lindner created a replacement based on the previous version.

tourism

The Wallpfad and the Berlin – Usedom long-distance cycle path run through the village . It is part of the Uckermärkische Seen region .

Memorial stone for Marinus Schöberl in front of the church

Potzlow caused a stir on July 12, 2002 when the 16-year-old Marinus Schöberl from Gerswalde was murdered by three young people with right-wing extremist backgrounds in a former LPG pig fattening facility in the town.
