The village of Blankenburg is located in the middle of the Uckermark on Lake Blankenburg , about 5 km west of Gramzow . Since the merger of the previously independent municipalities of Blankenburg, Potzlow , Seehausen and Warnitz on December 31, 2001, Blankenburg has belonged to the municipality of Oberuckersee .

In addition to Lake Blankenburg, there are two other lakes at the foot of the Wallberg: The Burgsee and the Kleine Burgsee . The Melzower Forest , which is part of the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve, begins immediately at the end of the village in a south-east direction .
history
Blankenburg emerged as a Slavic settlement. The first mention of the place as "Blanckenborch" dates back to the year 1250. In 1424 the village consisted of several farms that were owned by the monastery.
Until 1849, Blankenburg belonged to the Joachimsthal school district and then to the Angermünde district until 1952 . In the course of the district reform in the GDR in 1952, Blankenburg was assigned to the Prenzlau district , to which it belonged until 1991. From 1992 to 2001 the village belonged to the Gramzow office .
Attractions
- Wallberg
The place was named after the knights of Blankenburg, who came to this area from the Harz in the 12th century . The Slavic castle on the ramparts , popularly called "Wallberg", was taken over by the knights. Today the remains of the castle ramparts can be found northeast of the village. The tourist rampart path leads there today .
- Village church
The village church was built between 1230 and 1250 as a hall church made of field stones. The tower was built in 1750 as a half-timbered building and was rebuilt in 1860 as a solid structure. The Blankenburg village church originally had three bronze bells, but only one of them from around 1500 remains. The half- and full-hour striking tower clock was created around 1900 and was restored in 1995/1996. The interior is 22.5 meters long, 9 meters wide and 7 meters high. A straight beam ceiling forms the upper end. The marbled wooden pulpit altar dates from 1882. The organ and the horseshoe gallery were built in the first half of the 19th century by Johann Friedrich Turley .

Not far to the east is the suburb of Heidehof (west of Autobahn 11 ). The Kleine Rathsburgsee is located southwest of Heidehof . Heidehof was first mentioned in 1921.
Koboltenhof
Further towards Gramzow and further east is Koboltenhof (east of the motorway). There is the Great Rathsburgsee .
