The Lore-Bauer-Halle at Escher Straße / L 3023 in Idstein , Hesse, is a listed, former event and tennis hall.

The building planned by the Idstein architect Richard Bauer in 1970/71 and realized in 1972/73 was named after his wife. Richard Bauer was a student of the Darmstadt university professor Ernst Neufert and was already involved in the construction of the hydraulic engineering hall in Darmstadt. A draft for an indoor swimming pool had been rejected by the city of Idstein. With the Lore-Bauer-Halle Richard Bauer created a bold construction typical of the time.

construction

The construction consists of four eight centimeter thick, equilateral, leaning against each other and pre-tensioned hypar shells, which span a base area of 40 m × 40 m. Two opposite foundation points are stabilized by a tie . To the west, towards the city center, there are low, flat functional rooms and a caretaker's apartment in front of the hall.

The shape of the hyperbolic paraboloid was only realized sporadically in Germany. Examples are the Friedrich-Ebert-Halle in Ludwigshafen , the Alsterschwimmhalle and the St. Hildegard Church in Limburg an der Lahn . Prominent representatives of such plans were Félix Candela and Antonio Gaudi .

use

Initially, major events took place in the Lore-Bauer-Halle, such as “ Zum Blauen Bock ” by Heinz Schenk or “ The current sports studio ” with Harry Valérien . In view of the unfavorable location on the outskirts of the city opposite the Jewish cemetery , however, the city later only approved use as a tennis hall.

When this phase of use was also over, investors tried to set up a brothel in the hall. However, this attempt failed due to massive resistance from local residents. Use as an exhibition and sales area for vehicles was also considered.

In 2011 and 2015 there were several fires in different parts of the building.

Achim Bücher, the son of real estate investor Dietmar Bücher , has been the owner of the Lore-Bauer-Halle for several years . Allegedly, further discussions with potential future users are being held.
