Lorenz Krach
Lorenz Krach (* 1724 (?); † October 25, 1805 ) was the castle commander of the Willibaldsburg in Eichstätt at the time of the Napoleonic Wars .
Life
Lorenz Krach's date of birth can no longer be reconstructed. There is a file that suggests that he was born in 1724 in "Högelsmühle, Amt Beilngries ". A church book from Plankstetten documents the birth of Laurentius Karg in Eglasmühle on July 21, 1725.
It is also documented that the farmer's son joined the army of the Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt in 1756 and was referred to as "Schloss-Guarde-Leutnant" in 1780. From 1782, when he was promoted to lieutenant , he was in command of the Willibaldsburg.
When the French army occupied the city with 12,000 soldiers on September 12, 1796, Krach resorted to a ruse. His corporal Hemlock got to close the gates and the command loopholes of the castle with stove pipes to equip. The dozen soldiers (it is assumed a number of 20) on the Willibaldsburg wore cylinders to simulate a larger number and confined themselves to making noise when defending the castle.
So the French got the impression that there was a strong army in the castle. Lorenz Krach thus achieved an honorable deduction and had also cheated the French, which went down in Bavarian military history not only because of its wit, but also because of the means used without bloodshed .
From 1802 it is guaranteed that Lorenz Krach spent his old age as the landlord at Willibaldsburg.
Others

In addition, there were several performances of the story in 2006, performed by Schlossleutnant Krach Spiele e. V.
In 2007, the Eichstätt Historical Association registered the trademark "Lieutenant Lorenz Krach" as patent No. 307.18.421 of the Federal Republic of Germany.
