Lorenz Luchsperger
Lorenz Luchsperger , in some sources also Lorenz Luxberger, (* before 1471; † 1501 Wiener Neustadt , Lower Austria ) was a late Gothic sculptor .
Lorenz Luchsperger worked as a wood sculptor in Wiener Neustadt from 1471 at the latest until his death . In particular, the Annunciation group and the larger-than-life twelve apostle figures carved from linden and maple wood in the cathedral of Wiener Neustadt , which are stylistically based on the works of Niclas Gerhaert van Leyden (approx. 1430 to 1473), are attributed to him .
Other works by Luchsperger are apparently the late Gothic cross (today in the Holy Cross Church in Dülmen ) and perhaps also the shrine with the scene of the death of Mary (today in Očová near Zvolen , Slovakia ).
Luchsperger is considered to be the successor and student of van Leyden, with whom he possibly came to Austria from the Upper Rhine .
