Lorenzo Albacete

Lorenzo Albacete (born January 7, 1941 in San Juan , Puerto Rico , † October 24, 2014 in Dobbs Ferry , New York ) was an American clergyman and Catholic theologian.

Life

Lorenzo Albacete was a physicist specializing in aerospace science. At the Catholic University of America , he completed a master's degree in Catholic theology . After being ordained a priest in Washington in 1972, he completed a doctorate in theology at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome.

He was a co-founder and professor at the John Paul II Pontifical Institute for Studies in Marriage and Family at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, and at St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers, New York. From 1996 to 1997 he was President of the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico .

He has served as the U.S. Bishops Conference Commissioner for Spanish-Speaking Americans and Latinos, a columnist for the Italian weekly Tempi and The New Yorker, and frequent interviewee on CNN, The Charlie Rose Show, PBS, EWTN, Slate, The New Republic and Godspy. He received an award for commenting on the documentary The Human Experience .

Albacete was the opinion leader of the Comunione e Liberazione movement in the USA and also chairman of the supervisory board of the Crossroads Cultural Center , an institution of this movement.

He was a personal friend and advisor to Karol Wojtyła, later Pope John Paul II , who also appointed him monsignor . Lorenzo Albacete died on October 24, 2014 in Dobbs Ferry at the age of 73 of complications from Parkinson's disease .
