Loreto Chapel (Bühl am Alpsee)
The Loreto Chapel is one of the two churches in Bühl am Alpsee , a district of Immenstadt in the Allgäu . It is located on the east bank of the Großer Alpsee , close to the foot of the Immenstädter Horn , immediately north of the parish church of St. Stephan.
The chapel, built in 1666, is a replica of the Holy House (Santa Casa) of Loreto . After the crusaders had finally lost the Holy Land in 1291 , according to legend, angels transferred the house from Nazareth to a hill near Ancona on the Adriatic Sea. Soon the house developed into a popular pilgrimage site . Especially in the 17th century, many chapels were built in southern Germany based on the model of Loreto.
The builder in Bühl was Michael Kaufmann . The from the rule built for the people so-called grace house is divided into three sections: chancel with a round arched barrel-shaped ceiling, the wall frescos on the painted brick structure and the altar with an in scagliola technique executed chart showing colored laurel and Blütenranken, in whose center is the name Maria . The classicistic columnar altar is framed by the statues of John the Baptist and Saint Joseph .
In the actual living room of the Blessed Mother there is the Loreto miraculous image under a canopy carried by angels, in a semicircular niche that is crowned by a large shell, dressed as a Queen of Heaven with a star wreath, crown, scepter and the blessing divine child.
In order to remind us of the house of Nazareth as realistically as possible, the kitchen of Mary and the workshop of the carpenter Josef are located in the back room , which according to tradition were previously furnished accordingly. The only source of light on the east side is the so-called angel window , through which the Archangel Gabriel entered the house and Mary appeared.
