History and architecture

From around 1651 a St. John's chapel with a neighboring leper house stood at this point . The complex stood until around 1724. The sick could take part in mass through windows from the vestibule. Today's chapel has been in the care of Franciscans since around 1730 .

The baroque brick hall with a vestibule open on three sides was built according to the name in 1726 by Lambert Friedrich von Corvey for Johann Matthias von der Recke. A roof turret is attached to the hipped roof . The building is one of the few Loreto chapels in Westphalia that is based on the legendary birthplace of Mary at the Santa Casa in Loreto . The rear annex is from 1867, it was changed in 1887. The chapel serves as a cryptof the von Landsberg family. Above the side entrances there are sandstone reliefs depicting the Annunciation and the translation legend of the Santa Casa. The reliefs may have been created by Johann Wilhelm Gröninger . The bell was cast by Johann Kreft in 1664.

Next to the chapel is the former home of the Franciscans from the 18th century.
