Los Ángeles Azules ( span. For The Blue Angel ) is a Mexican cumbia - band , to the representatives of the Cumbia Sonidera count.

history

The band was founded in 1976 by siblings of the Mejía Avante family (Elías, Alfredo, José Hilario, Jorge, Cristina and Guadalupe) in the Barrio San Lucas of the Iztapalapa district of Mexico City under the name Playa Azul (German: Blue Beach ). At first it was almost a pure family band, which was only supplemented by the Clavijo brothers, who were responsible for the wind instruments, and the drummer Raúl Díaz.

The musical activities of their children were particularly supported by their mother Martha Avante Barrón, who hoped that they could finance their studies themselves. But at that time nobody even remotely expected the successes that would actually arise.

After a few years the group gave itself its current name, under which their first album Ritmos, Alegría y Sabor was released in 1982 .

Her album Entrega De Amor , released in 1994, was sold more than a million times and was awarded four gold records and other prizes such as the Palma de Oro , the Trébol de Oro and the Premio de Furia Musical .

In 1996 they released the song Cómo Te Voy A Olvidar , written by founding member Jorge Mejía Avante , which became the group's anthem. Jorge Mejía Avante, born on November 26th, 1967, not only plays the accordion , but is also something of the “spiritual leader” of the group and wrote most of the songs he wrote. With this song and the album of the same name, which was awarded six gold records, they achieved an enormous boost in popularity. Since then they have gained supporters from all classes of Mexico and many supporters in other Latin American countries .

In 1999 her song Un ribón de tu pelo took a top position in the Mexican charts for seven months . This success gave the group a top spot on the regional Mexican charts of the music magazine Billboard for the first time and a nomination for the Premio Lo Nuestro . The album, Una Lluvia De Rosas , which featured the song, sold more than 600,000 copies and was awarded both gold and platinum.

Their appearance at Yankee Stadium in New York City at a sporting event in 2004 proves that the group has long since made a name for itself in the United States .
