history

Los Planetas originated in Granada in the early 1990s under the name Los Subterráneos (The Underground). In 1992 they won under their current name with “Mi hermana pequeña” ( My little sister ) a radio competition of the state popular music and culture channel Radio 3 . The song was released in 1993 on the EP Medusa of the small and recently founded label Elefant Records.

Her style, which is often attributed to the Shoegazing (or Noise Pop ) direction that originated in Great Britain , has influences from the British bands Mercury Rev (early phase), Spacemen 3 and Joy Division , but is also reflected in traditional Andalusian music such as flamenco inspired. It was news in Spain in connection with Spanish language texts. With the albums Super 8 (1994) and Pop (1996), Los Planetas gained a growing fan base of identity-seeking youths, which made them a benchmark in the Spanish indie scene . During this time, the band also suffered from differences over the musical direction, which led to the separation of two of the four founding members, Paco Rodríguez and May Oliver.

The album "Unidad de Desplazamiento" marked the breakthrough to general awareness in Spain, the single "Santos que yo te pinté" was often seen on MTV España and other music channels.

Another very well-known and characteristic song of the Planetas is “Un Buen Día” (in Unidad de Desplazamiento ). It describes a perfect day that is enjoyed unplanned with getting up late, drinking coffee and reading comics. After an afternoon nap until 6 p.m., a number of beers are consumed with friends in the pubs from 10 p.m. He won't be home until 6 a.m. He only thought of a person who is addressed in the song with "you" occasionally - like a flash of inspiration.

"Desorden" on Super 8 pays homage to Ian Curtis , the singer of Joy Division , the title a reference to their song Disorder . The album La leyenda del espacio (English: The Legend of Space ), released in 2007, contains in the title a homage to the album La leyenda del tiempo (English: The Legend of Time ), by the 1979 flamenco singer Camarón , who first played flamenco, Combined jazz and rock.

Los Planetas are currently under contract with BMG Music Spain.
