Spacemen 3 was an English rock band from Rugby , Warwickshire . It was founded in 1982 by Pete Kember and Jason Pierce . Her style was to be assigned to space rock and neo-psychedelia , but also to the emerging shoegazing . In 1991 it broke up. Jason Pierce previously founded the band Spiritualized, which is still active today, together with Jon Mattock and Will Carruthers .
Band history
Spacemen 3 was founded in 1982 by art students Pete Kember aka Sonic Boom and Jason Pierce in Rugby, Warwickshire. From their motto "three chords good - two chords better - one chord best" they developed an independent, uncompromising sound and were influenced by bands such as MC5 , The Stooges , 13th Floor Elevators and The Velvet Underground . While the release of their first album Sound of Confusion in 1986 tended to appeal to a small group of fans, they managed to gain international attention the following year with The Perfect Prescription .
The band was completely open about their drug and especially heroin addiction . Musically, the band founders drifted further and further apart. There is only one song on the 1989 album Playing with Fire that the two wrote together. In 1991 their fourth album Recurring was released , on each LP side only songs by one of the two founding members can be found. By the time the record came out, Pierce had already founded Spiritualized with Carruthers and Mattock and shortly thereafter Spacemen 3 was disbanded.
