The Lossewerk was put into operation in 1911 as a lignite power plant for power generation in Kassel ( Bettenhausen district ). The energy source was lignite from the North Hessian Revier , where coal is no longer extracted today.

In 1966, the power plant was converted into a waste incineration plant and started operating in 1968. The operator of the waste-to-energy plant (MHKW) is Müllheizkraftwerk Kassel GmbH (MHKW) , a subsidiary of Kassel Transport and Supply Company . The power plant is used to generate electricity and district heating .

history

In 1911, a power generation plant was built on the Lossewiesen to supply the city of Kassel with electricity. The "Lossekraftwerk" initially started work with two machines of 2,000 kW each. Lignite was used for firing until 1966. From 1914 to 1938 the power plant was gradually expanded to meet the increased demand for electricity. In 1954 the capacity of the power plant was 32,000 kW.

On October 1, 1995, the waste incineration plant was merged with the Losse thermal power station and operated in the form of a waste incineration plant.

A fundamental renovation with associated optimization took place in the period from 2006 to 2008. Components included the renewal of the flue gas cleaning system and a switch from the spray adsorption process with milk of lime to a dry adsorption process with sodium bicarbonate. The installation of a heat displacement system resulted in a synergy effect in the optimization of processes. At the beginning of 2012, a new steam turbine was put into operation, which in condensation mode provides approx. 17.7 MW of electrical energy and up to approx. 40 MW of district heating.
