The solder bridge Castelmoron is a road bridge in Castelmoron-sur-Lot in the department of Lot-et-Garonne in the French region Nouvelle-Aquitaine , the Route départementale  D13 on the solder leads.

description

The two-lane bridge is 158 m long and approx. 9 m wide. It consists of two large reinforced concrete arches with a support width of 143 m, the abutments of which are a few meters behind the bank, but which are interrupted by joints on the higher roadway. The arches are 1 m wide throughout; their overall height is reduced from 1.50 m at the joints to 1.20 m at the top. Steel tie rods embedded in concrete beams on both sides of the carriageway absorb the horizontal forces of the arches. Above the joints there is therefore an arched bridge with a span of 120 m.

The roadway girder hangs from the arches with steel rods, the rods being arranged at an angle so that they are anchored close to one another at the top and bottom in the concrete of the arch or the roadway girder. The arches are stiffened by a K-shaped wind brace. The carriageway girder, which curves slightly upwards in the longitudinal direction, consists of a reinforced concrete T-beam with transverse and diagonal beams.

The bridge is the first bridge in France that was built by the French branch of the then internationally active Danish construction company Christiani & Nielsen based on their own patented designs. It is one of the only two Nielsen bridges in France. Its construction lasted from 1931 to 1934.

In 2007 the bridge was declared a Patrimoine du XXe siècle (Cultural Heritage of the 20th Century) .

history

The first bridge at this point was a privately financed suspension bridge built in 1845 . The 180 m long and 4.4 m wide was built by Entreprises Escarraguel fréres . In the first 40 years it was subject to a toll , depending on the amount of goods transported through it. It did its duty until the current bridge was opened.
