Lothair is a city in the South African province of Mpumalanga . It is located in the municipality of Msukaligwa in the Gert Sibande district .
geography
In 2011 Lothair had 6,099 inhabitants, including the townships Silindile and Breyten in the east of the urban area, in which around 5,800 people lived together. Nearby is the Bonnie Brook wetland on the upper reaches of the Usutu , which flows into the Indian Ocean as Maputo .
history
Lothair was founded in 1878 by Scottish emigrants and after the 1870 published novel Lothair of Benjamin Disraeli named.
Economy and Transport
Forestry ( pine trees , eucalyptus ) is mainly used around Lothair . The place is connected to its neighboring towns via local roads. Lothair is the terminus of a railway line that begins in Buhrmanskop near Ermelo and is operated in freight traffic. As part of the Swazilink project, there are plans to build a 146-kilometer new line from Lothair eastwards to Sidvokodvo in Swaziland .
