Lothar Graap

Lothar Graap (born June 15, 1933 in Schweidnitz ) is a German composer and Protestant church musician .

Life

Graap studied at the Conservatory in Görlitz from 1949 and switched to the church music school in Görlitz in 1950. After four years of study (among others with Eberhard Wenzel (composition) and Hans Schneider (organ)) he passed the church music B-exam. After the exam, he continued courses with Helmut Bornefeld and Siegfried Reda .

Lothar Graap worked as a church musician in Niemegk from 1954, after which he was cantor and organist at the cloister church in Cottbus until his retirement . In 1975 he was granted the status of A-Cantor , and in 1981 he was appointed Church Music Director. In 1991 Graap became a lecturer in organ playing at the Cottbus Conservatory. In 1998 he received the City of Cottbus Medal of Honor for his work. Until 2014 he was responsible for a weekly series of organ vespers in Berlin-Friedrichshagen . Today he lives in Schöneiche near Berlin .

Graap wrote numerous compositions, which are essentially rooted in worship and are determined by the Bible. His compositions are strongly influenced by his teacher Eberhard Wenzel and Paul Hindemith . He is a member of the lyricists and composers group TAKT .
