Lothar Krist (* 1951 in Fallersleben , today Wolfsburg ) is a German jazz musician (saxophone, clarinet, flute, arrangement), composer, orchestra leader and music journalist.

Live and act

In his childhood Krist was first introduced to music through folk songs and folk music , which he interpreted with his parents. At the age of nine he received violin lessons; At the age of twelve he founded a beat band in which he worked as a guitarist and singer. A year later he performed in churches around Wolfsburg with his own gospel choir. At the Wolfsburg Music School he learned the clarinet and saxophone as well as the composition. Then he studied music in Berlin, Bremen and Hamburg with a degree in artistic maturity in the subject of classical saxophone. During his studies he taught saxophone and jazz at the Wolfsburg Music School.

First, Krist was a member of Joe Viera's big band . From 1978 to 1985 he was a saxophonist in the dance orchestra of Radio Bremen and in the NDR big band . In 1983 he moved to the Hanover Music School, where he also founded a jazz department. During this time he also worked as a lecturer at the University of Music in Hanover and other universities.

From 1985 Krist was the music editor and presenter at NDR1 Niedersachsen . He also moderated the Swinging Hannover Festival on NDR television.

In 1987 he founded the Hannover BigBand, which he directed . The orchestra gave numerous concerts at home and abroad and recorded several albums. He continued to play in jazz bands of various styles, led the trio B 3 and worked as a studio musician .

Krist is also successful as an arranger and composer of jazz, rock and pop music. Until 1992 he was musical director and composer of the Berlin Children's Church Days. In 2002 he composed the children's musical Türmchens große Fest, which has now been performed repeatedly for the city church in Hanover . In 2016 his Requiem for a Russian soldier from Krasnoyarsk premiered.
