Lothar Kunack

Lothar Kunack (born April 6, 1925 , † December 2004 ) was a German soccer player who spent the most important part of his career at BSG Horch / Motor Zwickau . With BSG Horch, he became the first GDR soccer champion in 1950.

Kunack began his football career in the men's division in 1946 at the age of 21 at the Zwickau-Mitte sports club. In the meantime, in the 1947/48 season, he belonged to a group of Zwickau football players around Heinz Satrapa , who were involved as so-called zone jumpers at Hannover 96 . When in 1949 the East German sports committee established the league as the highest East German soccer class, Kunack moved from Zwickau-Mitte to the newly formed company sports community (BSG) Horch Zwickau. With 23 point games in 26 completed games and seven goals, the 24-year-old Kunack had a decisive share in winning the first GDR championship of the BSG of the Zwickau Horch automobile plant . Until 1954 he was part of the top division squad of Zwickau, who started in 1950 as BSG Motor. In the course of five seasons with a total of 156 matches, he completed 112 league games and scored 26 goals. As the last highlight of his Zwickau career he experienced the final of the GDR soccer cup on July 3, 1954. In this game, which Zwickau lost 2-1 against Vorwärts Berlin , he played on the left runner's position.
