Lotte and the Secret of the Moonstones is an Estonian-Latvian animated film directed by Heiki Ernits and Janno Põldma from 2011 .

action

Evening comes in the inventors' village and Fly Jaak sends dog-girl Lotte to bed. She looks at the moon and wonders what it is made of. In the darkness, two creatures scurry through the village and hold a shoe they have brought to the feet of the sleeping residents. You will find it at Lotte's uncle Klaus: The shoe fits him. The two find a stone in his suitcase, but lose it when Lotte appears. She watched both beings from her window. She wakes Uncle Klaus to find out more about the stone. Klaus tells her how he was once on a hike with two friends and found a suitcase with three stones in a cave. In the cave he heard many beings and fled, losing a shoe. Each of the friends received a stone at the end.

The next morning Lotte and Klaus discovered by chance that the stone probably has mechanical capabilities. You decide to find the other two stones to see the real properties of the stones. The two males follow them on their journey. First, they both come to their first friend, who runs a dance school. He has not been able to enter the room in which the stone lies for a long time, because since then the plants in the room have proliferated and formed a jungle. Little Lotte, however, manages to get the stone out of the room. A singer is enthusiastic about the stone and a musician who loves the singer attaches himself to the trail of Lotte and Klaus like the two beings in order to get the stones for himself.

Lotte and Klaus go to their sleeping second friend. Lotte and the smaller of the two creatures penetrate his sleep and learn that the stone is no longer with him, but with the penguins on the penguin island. On the way to the boat that is supposed to bring them both to the island, both Klaus and the larger of the two creatures are attacked by a virus that causes salt column disease. Both are taken to a hospital. The smaller of the two steals the backpack with the stones and wants to go to the island alone, but Lotte catches up with him. The creature turns out to be a three-eared moon hare that goes by the name of Tik. He tells Lotte that all moon bunny children go on a school trip to earth once a year. Since Klaus had taken the moonstones, the children and their teachers could no longer travel back to the moon and have now been waiting for the next full moon and the chance to travel back to the moon for a year. The stones must be together in the evening to start the journey. Lotte and Tik drive to the penguin island and can get the last stone. Back at the moon bunnies, the musician manages to steal the stones for a short time, but Lotte and Tik manage to get the stones back in time. Klaus and Tik's teacher Rihv, in turn, get well again, so that the teacher can also start the journey to the moon. All three stones, placed in certain shapes, result in a plant that climbs up to the moon and serves as a kind of elevator for the moon bunnies. Only when all the moon rabbits have disappeared does Lotte realize that she has not asked anyone what the moon is made of.

criticism

For the service movie- was Lotte and the mystery of moonstones an animated film, the children "in imaginative episodes with well-measured amounts of excitement and fun, the kind-spun fable to bizarre moon people and their risk return close [brings]". The “emphatically naively drawn figures” pass through a “colorful, sophisticated 3D-animated landscape, which, far from the cinema mainstream, opens up as a space worth discovering for fantasy, dreams and a respectful togetherness.” “Whimsical, eccentric, poetic: this is where it hits the fantasy somersaults ”, summarized Cinema .
