Louis-Edmond Hamelin , OC , GOQ , FRSC (born March 21, 1923 in Saint-Didace , Québec ; † February 11, 2020 ) was a Canadian geographer who was distinguished primarily by his studies of the Indians of North America and numerous studies on the Deserves high latitudes. One of his greatest achievements was the introduction of the concept of northernity , which made it possible to compare places in northern latitudes according to their anthropogenic accessibility.

Hamelin also founded the Center for Northern Studies at Laval University in Québec and was President of the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières from 1978 to 1983 .
