August Bischler
August Bischler (born April 29, 1865 - † May 26, 1957 ) was a Russian - Swiss chemist . The Bischler-Napieralski reaction and the Bischler-Möhlau indole synthesis are named after him .
Life
Bischler received his doctorate in 1889 with a thesis on condensation products from bases of the para series with paranitro and metanitro bitter almond oil under Viktor Merz at the University of Zurich . He was a private lecturer there until 1899, when he switched to the University of Basel . After taking Swiss citizenship in 1925 , he worked in the chemical industry in Geneva .
Bernard Napieralski was one of his PhD students at the University of Zurich (1893). He was born in Poland in 1861 .
