Louis-Hector Pron , also Hector Pron (born December 29, 1817 in Sézanne , † November 7, 1902 in Troyes ) was a French landscape painter .

Life

The French painter Louis-Hector Pron was born in the small community of Sézanne in the Marne department in 1817 . At the age of 16 he came to Troyes to work as a sales representative for one of the numerous local bonneteries . Since his numerous trips strengthened his preference for the visual arts, he began to take his first drawing lessons at the École des Beaux-Arts in Troyes. Some time later he visited the studios of the painter Louis-Auguste Lapito (1803–1874) and the two Barbizon painters Camille Flers and Jules Louis Philippe Coignet (1798–1860) in Paris .

In 1845 he won a gold medal and a third class medal at the Salon of 1849 when he first took part in the Salon de Paris with his painting Vue de la forêt de la Fontainebleau. Even at the Paris World Exhibition of 1855 , with 2176 artists from 28 nations were able to present a total of 4979 works, he managed to receive praise.

On October 12, 1847, he married Adélaïde Valton, who came from one of Troyes' respected local industrialist families. From then on, the couple lived in a mansion in Bréviandes on the banks of the Seine , the location of which inspired Pron to become a painter.

This can also be seen in the numerous pictures that Pron left for posterity. It is the river landscapes, meadows and pastures, the untouched nature without buildings and figures, which form his main motifs, including not only landscapes of Champagne, but also those of Burgundy and Normandy. The surviving catalog raisonné for the years 1845 to 1902, which was compiled by his wife, names a total of 281 paintings. But Pron made a name for himself not only artistically, but also politically when he was elected to the city council of Troyes on December 12, 1874.
