Louis Bionier

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Louis Bionier (* 1898 in Alfortville ; † 1973 ) was a French engineer and head of chassis and body development for the automaker Panhard .

life and work

As the son of a bicycle mechanic, Louis Bionier came into contact with the technical environment at an early age. After graduating from school, he is said to have started an apprenticeship at the aircraft manufacturer Voisin . In 1915 he was hired as a tool setter at Panhard & Levassor . The then general director Paul Panhard recognized the talent of the young man, who was able to further his education in internal training courses and, after going through several departments, finally became head of chassis and body development in 1929. He was thus largely responsible for the Panhard Dynamic , published in 1936 , which showed Bionier's predilection for aerodynamic body design, which he continued with the post-war models Dynavia , Dyna and Panhard PL 17 . After making a significant contribution to the brand's last car model, the Panhard 24 , he designed the Dyane model for Citroën , the new owner of Panhard, before retiring . He was supported in this work by René Ducassou-Pehau and Robert Opron .
