Paul Panhard

Joseph Paul René Panhard (born August 1, 1881 in Versailles , † March 26, 1969 in Neuilly-sur-Seine , France ) was a French engineer and until 1955 General Manager of the car manufacturer Panhard & Levassor .

Life

Paul Panhard is the son of Napoléon Panhard, brother of the company founder René Panhard , and his wife Jenny, nee. Fontaine. As a qualified lawyer, he joined his uncle's company in 1904, became sales manager in 1913 and took over management of the company from his cousin Hippolyte Panhard in 1941 . In the 1950s, together with his son Jean, he forced the rapprochement with competitor Citroën , which took over Panhard's automobile production entirely in 1965 and stopped it in 1967.

Awards

Paul Panhard was made Knight of the Legion of Honor on July 20, 1920 , promoted to officer on May 18, 1926 and appointed commander on May 18, 1953.

Paul Panhard was Chairman of the French Automobile Manufacturers Association CCFA and Vice President of the ACF .
