Roger Enrico

Roger Enrico (born November 11, 1944 in Chisholm , Minnesota ; died June 1, 2016 in the Cayman Islands ) was an American executive at PepsiCo .

Life

Roger Enrico's father was a factory worker. To the displeasure of his parents, Enrico actually wanted to be an actor. He was a soldier in the United States Navy in the Vietnam War and then began an employee position at General Mills , where he worked in the marketing of Wheaties breakfast cereal . In 1971, he joined Pepsi and worked as a brand manager for snacks Funyuns and Cheetos and chips Fritos . He was then responsible for Pepsi's Asian market as Area Manager. In 1983 he became president of PepsiCo's beverages division.

Enrico succeeded in engaging pop singer Michael Jackson as an advertising medium, later also Lionel Richie , and, with less success, Madonna . He waged the Cola war with the market leader Coca-Cola for the best sales areas in the supermarket chains. From 1996 to 2001 he was CEO of the entire group. He took over the restaurant chains Kentucky Fried Chicken , Pizza Hut and Taco Bell in order to open up additional sales channels for the beverage brand.

Enrico suffered a heart attack in 2001 and then had to slow down professionally. He changed industries and was CEO of DreamWorks from 2004 to 2012 .
