Louis Frédéric Schützenberger (born September 8, 1825 in Strasbourg ; † April 17, 1903 there ) was a French genre, history, portrait and nude painter.

Born the eldest son of the owner of the Schützenberger brewery, he showed his artistic talents at an early age, which his friend, painter Gabriel-Christophe Guérin, noticed and gave him his first painting lessons.

At the age of 17, Louis Frédéric Schützenberger came to Paris in the studio of the painter Paul Delaroche in 1842 , and when Delaroche came to Italy for a longer stay in 1843, Schützenberger began studying at the École des Beaux-Arts with Charles Gleyre . After graduating, he stayed in Paris as a freelance genre, history, portrait and nude painter.

In 1861 he left for Rome and stayed there for over a year. In 1862 he returned to Paris and moved to the “La Boîte à thé” building at 70 Rue Notre-Dame-des-Champs. A few years later he left Paris and returned to his hometown Strasbourg. In 1870 he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor .

From 1870 to 1885 he was the owner of the castle in Scharrachbergheim-Irmstett , where he set up his studio.

Louis Frédéric Schützenberger died in Strasbourg in 1903 at the age of 77. The painter René Schützenberger was his cousin.
