Louis Georges Gouy (born February 19, 1854 in Vals-les-Bains , Canton of Vals-les-Bains , † January 27, 1926 ) was a French physicist .

biography

He was a professor in Lyon . Together with David Leonard Chapman (1869–1958) he developed a theory of the electrochemical double layer , see Gouy-Chapman double layer . Experimental discovery of the Gouy phase shift in the propagation of light as a bundle of rays through a focus. Significant experimental investigations for the final clarification of Brownian motion , which has a cause identical to the motion of the molecules in a gas.

From 1901 he was a member of the Académie des Sciences .
