Louis Heinrich Hiemann

Louis Heinrich Hiemann (* July 17, 1857 , † March 3, 1939 ) was a German folk artist from the Saxon Ore Mountains , who was known as the Seiffen man maker . He is one of the most important manufacturers of miniature figures from Seiffen.

Life

He was the son of Wilhelm Friedrich Hiemann and his wife Karoline Wilhelmine. Little is known about his childhood and adolescence. He grew up in the toy village and turned at an early age like his father. Later he started his own factory as a manufacturer of wooden toys, on which he was actively supported by his wife Anna.

In the Reichstag elections in 1898 he supported the social democratic editor and writer Emil Rosenow , for whose election he was promoting in the population of Seiffen and the surrounding area.

Louis Heinrich Hiemann developed into a folk artist who broke away from the imitation of color images, also parted with the design of monotonous, tightly standing wooden soldiers and created his own works in miniature size by looking for motifs from his own life through fine observation. He designed numerous realistic everyday types of people in miniature size. Walter Neumann summarized this in 1983: The results of his work are realistic designs, creative achievements, real folk art .

Until the age of 81 he was still at the foot lathe and made wooden figures, including bridal couples and flower litter children.

Act

Many of his wooden figures are now part of the exhibitions in the Seiffen Toy Museum and in other museums, including the State Art Collections in Dresden .
