CE Louis Mayer (born April 9, 1829 in Berlin ; † December 13, 1890 there ) was a German gynecologist . He was the son of the gynecologist Karl Wilhelm Mayer (1795–1868) and a brother-in-law of the pathologist Rudolf Virchow .

Mayer studied from 1848 at the university in Halle and later in Würzburg, where he also worked under the direction of his brother-in-law Rudolf Virchow. He went from Würzburg to Vienna, where he carried out gynecological examinations on pregnant women at the building in order to publish his dissertation on this topic in 1853. Soon after, he took over his father's gynecological polyclinic. He completed his habilitation in 1872 at the Berlin University of Gynecology and Obstetrics. He was a member of the obstetric society and took over the chairmanship of the society after the death of Eduard Arnold Martin . It remained so until the association was merged with the Berlin Gynecological Society.

Mayer died in Berlin in 1890. His grave is in the Old St. Matthew Cemetery in Berlin . From 1987 to 2009 it was dedicated to the city of Berlin as an honorary grave .
