Louis Rippstein

Louis Rippstein (born December 26, 1915 in Kienberg ; † July 28, 1999 there ) was a Swiss farmer and politician of the Christian Democratic People's Party (CVP).

Life

The son of a farmer attended primary school in Kienberg and was one of the first students at the secondary school in Kienberg, which was newly founded in 1929. He later took over his father's farm. In addition, he became the Kienberg community clerk in 1941, a position he held for 32 years. He was also a founding member of the Raiffeisenbank Kienberg (today part of the Raiffeisenbank Erlinsbach) and chaired it for 42 years. In addition, he was also president of the Solothurn farmers' association and the cantonal CVP. He also worked as a conductor of the Kienberg church choir and as an organist. In 1991 he was made an honorary citizen of Kienberg.

In 1942 he married Anna Gubler from Kienberg. From this marriage there were four sons and one daughter. He died on July 28, 1999 at the age of 84.

Political career

When he stood for election to the cantonal council of the canton of Solothurn in 1949 for the CVP (at that time the party was still called the “Catholic Conservative Party”) , he began a long political career. He was elected to the cantonal parliament with the highest number of votes in the Gösgen district and was a member of it until 1977. In 1965 he even held the office of President of the Cantonal Council. In 1967 he was elected to the National Council and was a member of it until 1979.

Author activity

He is the author of the book "Kienberg: The History of a Jurassic Community" , published in 1991 , which he made on behalf of the community of Kienberg.
