Louis Rollet (born September 28, 1915 in Corveissiat , Département Ain , † 2001 ; full name: Louis Félix Rollet ) was a French colonial official. He was the governor of Niger .

Life

Louis Rollet graduated from the École coloniale in Paris and was a licentiate in law . He worked for the colonial administration of France and was active for the first time in 1941 in the colony of Niger, which belongs to French West Africa . From there he went to England to fly air raids against the German Reich as a pilot in the Royal Air Force until 1945 in the air war in World War II . Rollet then returned to colonial service in French West Africa, where he initially worked in the capital Dakar for several years . On January 25, 1958, he was appointed provisional governor of Niger in place of Paul Bordier . There Rollet had to prepare the referendum on September 18, 1958 , in which Niger would vote on whether it would remain with France. However, since he did not act decisively against Djibo Bakary , an advocate of independence, he was replaced on August 25, 1958 by Governor Don Jean Colombani .
