Louis de Blois

François-Louis de Blois , also Ludwig Blosius , Ludovicus Blosius , Ludovico Blosio (* 1506 in Donstiennes , Hainaut Province ; † January 7, 1566 in Liessies , North Department ) was a French Benedictine , reformer of the Benedictine order and mystical poet, who also under published under the pseudonym Dacrianus .

Life

De Blois came from an important Flemish noble family and was brought up together with Charles V in the Netherlands. He entered the Benedictine order in 1520. After visiting the college in Ghent and the University of Leuven , where he was a student of Adrian von Utrecht , de Blois returned to Liessies. In 1530 he became abbot of the Liessies monastery, after having worked there as coadjutor for three years . He refused an appointment as Archbishop of Cambrai and remained abbot in Liessies until his death.

His feast day is January 7th.

He was the author of numerous sacred works that have been translated into most European languages.
