Louis de Cazenave (born October 16, 1897 in Saint-Georges-d'Aurac , Haute-Loire department , † January 20, 2008 in Brioude ) was the last surviving veteran of the First World War who was involved in the fighting as a French .

Cazenave was mobilized in 1916 and took part in the fighting on the Chemin des Dames as an infantryman . After the war he became a railroad worker and a staunch pacifist ; he took part in the demonstrations of the Popular Front in 1936. During the Vichy regime he was interrogated several times by the police for making critical statements and lost his job.

In January 2008, Cazenave died at the age of 110 in his apartment in Brioude in Auvergne .

The last veteran of the First World War still alive after Cazenave's death with - since 1939 - French citizenship was Lazare Ponticelli ; in the First World War, Ponticelli participated first on the French and later on the Italian side. Ponticelli was 52 days younger than Cazenave and died exactly 52 days after him in March 2008.
