Louis de Wecker
The Franco-German ophthalmologist Louis de Wecker (born September 29, 1832 in Frankfurt am Main , † January 24, 1906 in Paris ) was born as Ludwig Wecker.
Life
He studied medicine at the universities of Würzburg , Berlin , Vienna and Paris and received doctorates in Würzburg (1855) and Paris (1861). His ophthalmological teachers were Albrecht von Graefe in Berlin, Ferdinand von Arlt and Friedrich Jaeger von Jaxtthal and his son Eduard in Vienna, and in Paris Julius Sichel and Louis-Auguste Desmarres. From 1862 he ran a well-frequented eye clinic in Paris.
De Wecker designed and modified a number of instruments for eye surgery . His name is associated with the alarm clock scissors , small, pointed, self-opening scissors .
