Gerd Friedsam

Gerd Friedsam (* 1957 in Oberdürenbach , Ahrweiler district ) has been President of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) since the beginning of 2020 . Before that, he had been Vice President under Albrecht Broemme since 2011 .

Live and act

Gerd Friedsam joined the Technical Relief Organization as a volunteer in 1986 and moved from the local association (OV) Frankfurt a. M. to Stuttgart . In 1991 he became a specialist teacher at the Academy for Crisis Management, Emergency Planning and Civil Protection (AKNZ). In 1995 he became head of department for foreign assignments of the THW management in Bonn and later acted as head of the management staff. At the same time, between 1998 and 2002, he was the local representative at OV Ahrweiler and chairman of the local helpers' association . In the meantime, he took over the provisional management of the state association of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Friedsam took part in numerous missions abroad, including in Lebanon and Afghanistan, as head of department and volunteer helper .

On October 1, 2011, Friedsam was appointed Vice President of the THW under Albrecht Broemme and replaced him on January 1, 2020. Sabine Lackner has been his deputy since April 1, 2020 .
