Louise Mary Richardson (* 1958 in Tramore ) is an Irish political scientist . Her main area of ​​work is terrorism research .

Life

Richardson studied history at Trinity College (Dublin) and political science at California State University, Los Angeles . She received her PhD from Harvard University .

She was the principal, vice chancellor and professor at the University of St Andrews in Scotland for seven years . She was previously dean of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University .

On May 28, 2015, Richardson was nominated as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford . This first nomination for a woman for this position is considered a milestone in the history of the university. On January 1, 2016, she took over this position as the successor to Andrew Hamilton.

She has been a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh since 2010 . In 2016 she was elected a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and in 2017 of the American Philosophical Society . In 2015 she became an Honorary Member of the Royal Irish Academy . She holds honorary doctorates from several universities ( University of St Andrews , University of Aberdeen , Trinity College Dublin, Queen's College Belfast).
