geography

The area of the local community extends to 46.822 km² in the north of Evia . It extends about 18 km along the Gulf of Evia from the municipal boundary to Mandoudi-Limni-Agia Anna in the east to the bay of Gialtra ( Ormos Gialtron Όρμος Γιάλτρων) where the local community Gialtra adjoins to the west. Bordering parishes in the east are Istiea and Orei . Agios borders in the north .

Along the coast lie Ilia , the small town of Loutra Edipsou at the entrance to Gialtra Bay and further north Paralia Agiou Nikolaou . In the mountainous hinterland of Ilia are Ano Ilia , Polyfono and Moni Agiou Georgiou . The area between Loutra Edipsou and Edipsos , which is about 3 km to the north, is heavily sprawled up to the coast at Paralia Agiou Nikolaou , with Maonis immediately to the north . The Ethniki Odos 77 runs from the south near the coast , from Loutra Edipsou it leads inland to Edipsos and from there to Istiea.

tourism

Of the 147 spa facilities in Greece, 93 of which are of touristic importance, Loutra Edipsou is one of the oldest and most popular with around 25,000 visitors in the high season. There are more than 80 hot springs in the city with temperatures between 28 and 86 ° C. Since the 1920s, the population has increased from 250 to 2719 in 2001. The area between Loutra Edipsou and the northern Edipsos and Paralia Agiou Nikolaou is heavily sprawled due to the brisk construction activity. Most of the buildings in the city are relatively newly built multi-story hotels or apartment blocks.
