Love & Lies ( Japanese 恋 と 嘘 , Koi to Uso ) is a manga series by Musawo that has been released in Japan since 2014. It was adapted as an anime television series in 2017 and belongs to the romance genre.

content

In the near future, everyone will be assigned a spouse on their 16th birthday, chosen by the government based on genetic traits. The aim is to increase the birth rate and produce healthier and smarter children. But if you are not happy with your partner, you are forbidden to fall in love with others.

The rather average student Yukari Nejima decides never to marry others, including the girl Misaki Takasaki. But shortly before his 16th birthday, Neji Misaki confesses his love for her, which is even reciprocated. But shortly afterwards he is assigned Ririna Sanada as his partner and Misaki turns away from him. Neji doesn't want to accept that. Ririna, who has never been in love before, but has a romantic disposition, lets Neji do it in his further attempts at contact with Misaki. She is interested in how the relationship between the two develops. Meanwhile, the arranged couple must pretend to be in a relationship with those around them and the government.

publication

The series is since August 2014 the app Manga Box from the publisher Kodansha published. This also brings out the chapters collected in nine volumes so far. The seventh volume sold almost 80,000 copies in Japan in the first two weeks.

A German edition has been published by Kazé Deutschland since October 2018, with six volumes so far. Kodansha publishes an English translation in the USA.

Anime adaptation

In Liden film was directed by Seiki Takuno an anime series for the Japanese television produced. The main author of the 12 episodes is Natsuko Takahashi . The character design comes from Eriko Itō and the artistic direction was Yukihiro Saitō . The series was shown for the first time from July 4 to September 19, 2017 on Tokyo MX , Sun Television , KBS Kyōto , BS11 , TV Kanagawa and AT-X . At the same time, an international publication took place via streaming platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, Anime Strike and Hidive. A German version was streamed by Anime on Demand and published by Nippon Art .

The music in the series comes from Masaru Yokoyama and Nobuaki Nobusawa . The opening credits are Kanashii Ureshii by the band Frederic and the credits are underlaid with the song Can't you say by Roys.

Real film

The film Koi to uso was released in Japan on October 14, 2017 . Directed by Takeshi Furusawa and written by Erika Yoshida . Unlike the manga, the story revolves around a girl who is courted by two boys, but against the same background.
