action

The deaf Jake Mitchell appears in 2002 with his partner Corinne Kennedy as defending champion at the US Open dance competition. In order to feel the music better, Jake always turns off his hearing aid on the dance floor.

A few years later, Jake gave up professional dancing and lectured in schools on dealing with disabilities. In the course of a lecture, however, he and his former dance partner Corinne presented something of his skills. The teacher Jessica Donovan is enthusiastic about it and wants to learn to dance that well too.

Jessica books private dance lessons with Jake Mitchell for herself and her fiancé, businessman Kent Krandel, in preparation for their planned wedding. However, since her fiancé wants to close an important deal, he leaves Jessica alone in the dance studio and Jake shows Jessica the first basic steps in West Coast Swing . A little later, Jessica and Kent go to a small dance competition in a bar. Kent feels uncomfortable there, but Jessica finds more and more pleasure in dancing and is encouraged by Jake.

Jessica decides to take part in a dance competition and take dance lessons from Jake. She cancels the dance lessons with her fiancé because this is not important to Kent anyway. While rehearsing for the amateur competition, Jake feels that he no longer has the skills to compete in professional tournaments. Jessica doesn't believe this, however. Jake finally asks Jessica to take him to the US Open. Even though Jessica doesn't think she's good enough for it, she agrees. The two spend a lot of time together rehearsing in the dance studio, but initially things don't go as well as expected. This also causes an argument between Jessica and Kent. At a wedding party there is a final break between Jessica and Kent and Jessica decides to leave Kent. When Jake turns up at Jessica's a little later to tell her that because of their good relationship they have a chance of winning the US Open, Jessica kisses him. The two will eventually appear at the US Open. Shortly before the performance, he told her that he fell in love with her. Jake left his hearing aid switched on for the first time during the performance. At the end of their performance, the two kiss passionately.
