history

The student Brian Lowit , who was enrolled at Guildford College in Greensboro , North Carolina , founded the label in 1995. The label, which was first founded in Greensboro, moved three years later to a suburb of Washington DC in Arlington.

The label mainly publishes genre bands from the Washington DC and Virginia area, although individual - sometimes more commercially successful - punk bands have also released. After the turn of the millennium, more experimental and quieter bands - often side projects of hardcore punk and emo band members who published on the label - from the field of indie rock and punk tended to be released.

The label itself describes the styles and sounds of the bands as follows:

"Lovitt is firmly committed to exploring a variety of genres while maintaining a no-nonsense, punk aesthetic."

Styles and bands

Most of the bands and published albums, EPs and splits can be classified as emo, post-hardcore and hardcore punk. Emo legends such as Four Hundred Years , Engine Down or Sleepytime Trio as well as postcore groups such as Decahedron or Haram belong to these bands. The label also publishes recordings by some artists from the indie rock and punk rock sectors, with the Swedes of Division of Laura Lee being one of the most famous groups. Many artists play or have played in several bands whose recordings have been and are published on the label.
