Luís Cristóvão dos Santos (born December 25, 1916 in Pesqueira , Brazil , † June 30, 1997 in Recife , Brazil) was a Brazilian sociologist , anthropologist , folklorist , columnist, writer, lawyer and journalist.

He studied in Pesqueira and Recife and graduated from the Faculdade de Direito do Recife with a bachelor's degree in law and social sciences in 1944 . After graduating, he was a public prosecutor in various districts in the hinterland of Pernambuco . In the 1950s he was the head of the Gazeta do Pajeú newspaper . From 1947 on he was a delegate of the União Democrática Nacional and was also elected its deputy chairman.

In 1955 he was a candidate of the left for Vice-Prefect of the city of Arcoverde . He was involved in the cultural and political life of Pernambuco. He withdrew after the early death of a child.

Dos Santos has been a writer since his youth. In addition, he worked as a journalist, including writing for A Voz do Sertão , Gazeta do Pajeú , Diario de Pernambuco and the Jornal do Commercio and a few other Brazilian media. He has also contributed to several books, documentaries and film reports about the Brazilian jungle and the Rio Pajeú .

He was a member of the Academia Pernambucana de Letras (chair 4) and namesake of chair 12 of the Academia Pesqueirense de Letras e Artes , which Jarival Cordeiro do Amaral took for the first time . He received the Othon Bezerra de Mello Prêmio twice , first in 1955 for the book Caminhos do Pajeú , which topped the sales lists in Rio de Janeiro for more than a year , and finally in 1970 for Caminhos do Sertão . In 1970 he also received a Medal of Merit from the Fundação Joaquim Nabuco for his contributions to Brazilian culture and was made an honorary citizen of Recifes in September of the same year.

Dos Santos died of a stroke on June 30, 1997 in the Santa Joana Hospital in Recife City.
