The Lubekogel ( Slovenian Lubejev vrh ) is 570  m above sea level. A. high mountain of the Windischen Bühel in Styria .

Location and landscape

The mountain lies in the core of the Austrian part of the Windischen Bühel in south-western Styria , some of which are part of the Lavanttal Alps and some of which are already part of the Alpine foothills .

The mountain forms the border between Steinbach (Kamenik, municipality of Gamlitz ), Glanz (Klanc) and Fötschach (both Leutschach an der Weinstrasse ), the summit is in the Gamlitz area. The Steinbach flows north to the Mur, south-east the Glanzbach , which drains to the Drau, and south-west a channel to the Pößnitzbach , which goes to the Sulm.

Not far to the north-west lies the 576  m high Wurzenberg in the ridge , to the northeast the Urlkogel at 524  m , to the south the ridge goes to the Schmirnberg  ( 634  m ).

geology

The mountain is formed from Urler gravel in the north and Kreuzberg gravel in the south, limnic - fluvial sediments in the edge area of the Paratethys Sea , which originate from the turn of the Karpatian and Badenian (turn of the Burdigalian to the Langhian of the Miocene , around 16 million years ago). The summit corridor is a blanket of playing fields sands , which are coastal sands of this time.

history

The Lubekogel actually formed the German-Slovenian language border in Lower Styria and, according to the Treaty of St. Germain , should form the state border. Glanz (Klanjci), predominantly Slovene-speaking, did not come to the SHS state , but to Austria, which means that the state border runs 2 km to the east today.

The houses at the back, a group (Stindl to Oberzozel), were previously listed as the Lubekogel von Gamlitz location , this name has become unusual and is no longer officially recorded, the houses have the addresses Steinbach .

Development and nature

The mountain is a vineyard site and is located in the Südsteirisches Weinland nature reserve ( Southwest Styrian Weinland nature reserve ).

At the highest point there is a flood tank with a small viewing platform. The Merian praises the mountain: "A place that visitors will never forget: panoramic view of the Lubekogel." The high road Gamlitz - Leutschach , with the junction to Karnerberg , passes south of the summit, which can be reached via a small gravel road. The Südalpenweg  (03) and the Styrian Landesrundwanderweg are led here.

At the summit there is also a mail stone of 1747. This stone was originally on the Post Road Ehrenhausen - Arnfels at the turnoff from the main road Post Vienna - Trieste (Wetr), and was also Burgfried stone market Ehrenhausen. He was moved here in 1955.
