The Pößnitzbach is a brook in Styria , which rises in the southeast of Leutschach in the cadastral community (KG) Großwalz, near the border to KG Schloßberg and the southern part of KG Pößnitz. From there it flows north, then west and ends at the district Saggau into the river Saggau , in turn, into the Sulm flows.

In old documents the brook is also called “Obere Pesnitz” (with a long s “Peſnitz” written).

The "Obere Peſnitz" in the 18th century (below the middle).

The headwaters of this stream borders on that of the Pößnitzbach (also Pössnitz / Pesnice or "Untere Pesnitz"), a tributary of the Drava in Slovenia. Between the two streams there is a lower pass (valley crossing), which is crossed by the state road L 614, Langeggstraße. The fact that two streams on both sides of a valley crossing bear the same name is common with old names on traffic routes in the Alpine region, compare Tauernbach . The valley of the two Pößnitz brooks marks the border of the Possruck (Kozjak) to the north-east upstream Windischen Büheln (Slovenske Gorice) .

The Pößnitz belongs to the European Protected Area No. 16 .
