Schloßberg (Slovene Gradišče ) was a municipality with 1,076 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2014) in the Leibnitz district in the Austrian state of Styria .

Since 2015, the municipality has been merged with the municipalities of Glanz an der Weinstrasse , Leutschach and Eichberg-Trautenburg as part of the municipal structural reform in Styria . The new municipality is called " Leutschach an der Weinstrasse ".

geography

Schloßberg is located in the south of Styria on the border with Slovenia . Via the border crossings Schlossberg / Gradišče and Großwalz / Duh na Ostrem vrhu (Holy Spirit on the Osterberg) side roads lead to the village of Ožbalt in the municipality of Podvelka ( Podwölling ) in the Drau valley in Slovenia.

structure

The municipality comprised the following three localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):

  • Large roller (133)
  • Remschnigg (245)
  • Castle Hill (628)

The community consisted of three cadastral communities Großwalz, Remschnigg and Schloßberg.

history

The community Schloßberg became an autonomous corporation in 1850, but until 1882 it belonged to the local association of the market community Leutschach . On January 1st, 1883, the community of Schloßberg became independent. When the border was drawn after the First World War, Schloßberg lost a third of its municipality to what was then Yugoslavia . With this ceded parish property, 94 houses were also lost.

After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community became part of the Reichsgau Steiermark, from 1945 to 1955 it was part of the British zone of occupation.

coat of arms

The municipal coat of arms was awarded with effect from June 1, 1955.

Description of the coat of arms: “In a green shield, on a silver tripod with a raised central dome, there is a three-part, likewise silver, castle whose foundations rest on one of the dome's. The middle part of the castle shows, above a closed, arched gate, with one window removed each, a pointed roof with three windows, two above a tower, while a smaller tower with a trimmed roof and two windows one above the other rises on either side. "

politics

The last mayor was Gottfried Postl (ÖVP). After the 2010 elections, the municipal council was composed as follows:

Großwalz elementary school

Josef-Krainer School

Between 1909 and 1912 a new school building was erected near the Heiligengeist church, which was destroyed in partisan fighting at the end of the Second World War. It was a heavy loss for the children of these then remote areas. A farmer was soon found in the cadastral community of Großwalz who made a room available for teaching.

Between 1947 and 1949 a new school was built with the great help and personal contribution of the population. After a great supporter, it was named "Josef Krainer School" after the then governor of Styria. In the course of the education plan of the Styrian state government, this small school was closed at the end of the 2011/12 school year.

Economy and Infrastructure

Schloßberg has an agrarian structure with a focus on wine and hop growing. In recent years tourism has become an increasingly important source of income for many accommodation and wine taverns. One focus of the tourism association Rebenland, to which the community Schloßberg belongs, is the area of hiking. Many hiking trails have been set up and marked. A special jewel is the Hl. Geist Gorge in the nature reserve, which has been included in the list of natural gems in Styria.
